Renovated laundry in a Brisbane home with custom cabinetry and benchtop

Laundry Renovations Brisbane

Custom laundry renovations designed and built by one licensed team, from full rebuilds to compact European laundries. Family owned, HIA award winning and QBCC licensed, working across Brisbane from our Geebung showroom and design studio.

What We Do

Complete laundry renovations across Brisbane.

The laundry is usually the last room anyone renovates and the one that costs you the most time every week. A badly planned laundry means carrying wet washing across the house, folding on top of the machine, and storing detergent wherever it fits. A well-planned one absorbs the whole routine into a single bench run.

Bathrooms Are Us designs and builds laundries throughout Brisbane, from our showroom and design studio in Geebung. We handle the full scope in-house: layout and design, demolition, plumbing, electrical, waterproofing, tiling, custom cabinetry, benchtops and appliance installation. One licensed builder is responsible from the first measure to handover, rather than a chain of separate contractors.

Our completed laundries run from Bridgeman Downs and Taigum on the Northside through to The Gap in the west and West End south of the river. Wherever the property sits, the process and the standard are identical.

Laundry Types

Four ways a Brisbane laundry usually gets built.

Which one suits depends on how much space you have, where the plumbing currently sits, and how the room needs to work day to day.

01

Full laundry renovations

A complete strip-out and rebuild. New plumbing and electrical, fresh waterproofing, floor and wall tiling, custom cabinetry, a durable benchtop and a properly sized tub. This is the option when the existing layout doesn't work rather than simply looking dated, and it's where relocating the tub, machine or door usually pays for itself.

02

European & compact laundries

A full laundry folded into a cupboard, hallway, kitchen or bathroom. Common in apartments and townhouses through Newstead, Hamilton, Chermside and the inner city, and increasingly in houses where the floor area is better used elsewhere. We plan the ventilation, door swing, machine clearances and drainage properly so a concealed laundry doesn't turn into a damp cupboard.

03

Laundry and bathroom combined

Very common in post-war Brisbane homes, where the laundry was originally tacked onto the bathroom or sat under the house. Combining or separating the two is a structural and plumbing decision as much as a design one. Because we renovate both, we can scope the whole wet area at once rather than quoting the rooms in isolation.

04

Dual-purpose laundries

Laundries that also work as a mud room, drop zone, pet wash or craft space. A raised dog shower, a bench with hooks and shoe storage by the back door, or a deep tub set at a workable height. These need the drainage and durability planned in from the start, not retrofitted later.

Design & Storage

Getting the storage right is most of the job.

Most laundries fail on storage rather than finishes. Detergent ends up on the benchtop, the ironing board lives behind a door, and there is nowhere to put washing between the machine and the wardrobe.

Because we build our own cabinetry, storage gets designed around what you actually keep in there rather than around a standard cabinet module. During the design stage we walk through your current routine and plan the room to remove the steps that annoy you.

You'll see all of it before anything is ordered. Our 3D design service lets you test cabinet heights, door swings and finishes while changes still cost nothing.

  • Overhead cabinets and open shelving to use the vertical space above the machines.
  • Tall broom and linen cupboards for vacuums, mops, ironing boards and bulk supplies.
  • Pull-out hampers and sorting bins built into the cabinetry rather than sitting on the floor.
  • A fold-down or concealed ironing board that disappears when you're not using it.
  • Retractable airers and hanging rails under the cabinets for delicates that can't go in the dryer.
  • A continuous benchtop over the machines to give you a flat surface for folding.
  • A recessed laundry tub set into the benchtop rather than a freestanding trough.
  • Slim pull-outs beside the machines for the gaps that would otherwise be wasted.
  • Bright LED task lighting and real ventilation, which matter more in a small room than anywhere else in the house.

Built To Last

Waterproofing, tiling and the parts you never see.

A laundry is a wet area, and Queensland treats it as one. Waterproofing has to be carried out to AS 3740 and the work has to be done by a licensed party. It's also the part of the job most likely to be skipped when a renovation is priced too keenly, because nobody can see it once the tiles go on.

We waterproof every laundry we build, tile the splashback and wet zones properly, and set the floor falls so water reaches the drain rather than pooling behind the machine. That's the same standard we apply to bathrooms and showers, and it's a large part of why our work holds up.

Appliance planning gets the same treatment. Front loader versus top loader changes the bench height and door clearance. A vented dryer needs an external duct; a condenser or heat pump doesn't but needs airflow. Stacking changes the cabinetry above. We settle all of this at design stage rather than discovering it on installation day.

How It Works

Our laundry renovation process.

A four-step process refined over more than 35 years of renovating wet areas across Brisbane.

01

Consultation

A call or site visit to measure the space and talk through how you use it, your timeframe and your budget. We check where the existing plumbing and power sit, since that shapes what's practical.

02

Design

Detailed 3D drawings of the new laundry, plus finish and fixture selection from our Geebung showroom. Nothing is locked in until you're happy with the layout on screen.

03

Construction

Our licensed builders manage demolition, plumbing, electrical, waterproofing, tiling, cabinetry and appliance installation, coordinating every trade so you don't have to.

04

Completion

A full walkthrough of the finished laundry, site cleaned and rubbish removed, before we hand it back. Everything is checked against the agreed scope.

You're kept informed throughout, so you always know what's happening and when. The same approach applies to every wet area we build — see our bathroom renovations and shower renovations.

Emma McGeown

Great team, we are very pleased with our ensuite renovation. We have just had our second renovation completed by Bathrooms Are Us. This was a complete bathroom, toilet and Laundry renovation. We were given a building schedule so we knew who would be on-site for the two week renovation. Randal and Richard were great to deal with, the contractors were all very professional and a special thanks to Alan the painter. Would highly recommend BAU.

Steven Cooper

My wife and I are very happy with the quality of the renovations that we had done recently by Bathrooms R Us. We had three bathrooms and a laundry renovated. These rooms had to be completely stripped. Everything ran like clockwork throughout the entire design phase and the project management phase. Having worked in the construction industry for over 36 yrs, I was impressed by the quality and professionalism of the staff and the standard of workmanship. Management of the entire project was excellent. Our special thanks to Randall and Richard and all the staff at Bathrooms are Us.

Common Questions

Laundry renovation questions.

How much does a laundry renovation cost in Brisbane? +

Laundry renovations typically start from $10,000. What moves the figure is the size of the room, the amount and finish of the cabinetry, whether the plumbing or power needs relocating, and the benchtop material. We provide a detailed written estimate after measuring the space, so the number you receive is specific to your laundry rather than an average.

How long does a laundry renovation take? +

A typical laundry renovation takes about 2 to 4 weeks. Smaller refits are quicker; a full rewire, a relocated tub or a layout change takes longer. Custom cabinetry lead time is usually the item that sets the schedule, which is why we confirm selections early.

What's included in a full laundry renovation? +

Design and 3D drawings, product and finish selection, demolition, plumbing, electrical, waterproofing, wall and floor tiling, custom cabinetry, benchtop, tub, tapware and appliance installation, then supervision through to handover. You receive a written scope before work starts so you know exactly what is and isn't covered.

Can you build a European or concealed laundry? +

Yes. We regularly build compact laundries into cupboards, hallways, kitchens and bathrooms for apartments, townhouses and homes where floor space is better used elsewhere. The critical details are ventilation, machine clearances, door swing and drainage — get those wrong and a concealed laundry becomes a damp cupboard.

How do I get more storage into a small laundry? +
  • Overhead cabinets or open shelving above the machines
  • A tall broom cupboard for vacuums, mops and ironing boards
  • Pull-out hampers built into the cabinetry instead of floor baskets
  • A fold-down or concealed ironing board
  • A retractable airer or hanging rail under the cabinets
  • A continuous benchtop over the machines for folding
  • Slim pull-outs in the gaps beside the appliances
Do you waterproof laundries? +

Yes. A laundry is a wet area under Queensland regulations and we waterproof every one we build to AS 3740, then set the floor falls so water reaches the drain. We're also fully licensed for waterproofing across bathrooms and showers, including leaking shower repairs.

Can you match my laundry to my kitchen or bathroom? +

Yes. Because we build custom cabinetry rather than ordering standard modules, we can match door profiles, handles, benchtop material and colour to your existing kitchen or bathroom. If you're renovating more than one room, see our bathroom renovations in Brisbane and we'll scope them together.

Can you move the tub, washing machine or drainage? +

Usually, yes. Relocating plumbing is one of the most effective ways to fix a laundry that doesn't work, though it adds cost and time. We assess the existing drainage, waste positions and floor construction at the consultation and tell you honestly whether the improvement justifies the expense.

Which parts of Brisbane do you service? +

We work across Brisbane from our Geebung base. Our completed laundries include Bridgeman Downs and Taigum on the Northside, The Gap in the western suburbs and West End south of the river. If you're unsure whether we cover your address, call us on 07 3216 5855.

Are your renovations licensed, insured and guaranteed? +

Yes. We're QBCC licensed (49737) and fully insured in Queensland, and we stand behind our workmanship with a warranty. All work complies with Queensland Building and Construction Commission standards.
